Project H.O.M.E. Reorganizes Social Enterprise Businesses; One Door Closes, Another Opens Wider
OCTOBER 9, 2009The Back Home Café + Catering (BHCC) will be closing its doors for business as of October 15th. The BHCC has served the Project H.O.M.E. community and the neighborhood for numerous years, providing both quality food and drinks and a welcoming atmosphere. It has also provided employment and job training for a number of Project H.O.M.E. residents. Unfortunately, it has been an ongoing challenge to draw enough foot traffic from outside Project H.O.M.E. to make it thrive and cover its costs.
In contrast, Our Daily Threads Thrift Store, currently located at 1515 Fairmount Ave., has maintained a steady stream of customers and clothing donations and has substantially lower overhead costs. For these reasons, we will be expanding the Thrift Store, including extended hours, additional space, changes in the pricing structure and marketing. This expansion will support additional employment opportunities for residents and will also include a small canteen for sale of beverages and snacks to serve the community. The expansion will begin on November 2nd.
