Announcing the 2009 Fran Egan Civic Award Winners!
DECEMBER 29, 20092009 Fran Egan Civic Award Winners Announced
DECEMBER 30, 2008
In conjunction with the family of Fran Egan, a longtime friend of Project H.O.M.E. who passed away in 2005, our organization honors Fran's memory and legacy with the annual FRAN EGAN CIVIC AWARD. Fran was a dedicated Project H.O.M.E. supporter whose commitment to improving our community inspired us all. This award is intended for an adult or teen who intends to use his or her education to improve civic life in Philadelphia. The award includes a financial grant.
This year we honored two members of the Project H.O.M.E. community:
- Tanisha Clanton, whose family lives at Rowan Homes, was a long-time participant in the Teen Program at Honickman Learning Center and Comcast Technology Labs. She is now in her second year at Albright College, where she is studying art history, with the goal of using art education to empower youth to develop their own skills and improve their communities. An article about Tanisha was published in the Philadelphia Inquirer shortly after she was honored: see link
- Heather Hillas works at the HLC-CTL’s Teen Program and does a tremendous job working with our young people. She has also volunteered at the Women’s Respite and in the Advocacy and Education Department. She is studying social work at Temple.
Congratulations to all both winners! They express the best of the Project H.O.M.E. vision and mission, as do so many of our residents and staff. And thanks to the Egan family for making this award possible.
If you would like to nominate yourself or someone else for next year's award, please contact Will O'Brien, Special Projects Coordinator, for a nomination form. Will can be reached at 215-232-7272, ext. 3047 or willobrien@projecthome.org.
