Spotlight on the 19121 Neighborhood
Project HOME’s focus on the 19121 ZIP code began in 1990 with the opening of our first permanent supportive housing residence, Hope Haven I. Due to the decline of manufacturing and years of divestment, this community is one of the most under-resourced neighborhoods in the city and the area of origin for a significant number of those who access emergency shelter each year.
Over the years, through a powerful partnership with its neighbors in 19121, Project HOME continued to add supportive housing residences and community services including our Affordable Homeownership Program in 1998, the Helen Brown Community Center in 1995, Rowan Homes Judson and Diamond for families in 2000 and 2002, the Honickman Learning Center Comcast Technology Labs in 2004, and the Stephen Klein Wellness Center in 2015.
For those living in the neighborhood, we provide a food pantry at the Helen Brown Community Center. We are adapting to the needs of the community and working to ensure a steady supply of quality food and fresh produce. Public and private funding partnerships have fueled these initiatives, and we have seen steady improvement in economic stability and public safety over the years.
